What to expect on your jobsite.

The equipment we bring, what each machine needs from your building, and how we keep the dust down. Written for contractors, facility managers and homeowners who like to know what is coming.

Commercial and industrial jobs.

Big slabs get the big machines. The grinder and the vac run together on one three phase circuit, so the first question we ask on a commercial job is where the panel is.

The Husqvarna PG 820 is a 970 lb, 17 horsepower planetary grinder with a 32 inch grinding width. The Husqvarna DC 5500 dust collector plugs into the building and the grinder plugs into the vac, so one 480 volt three phase 30 amp circuit runs both. The DC 5500 filters 99.9 percent of dust at 1 micron. The Lavina 20 handles edges, tight areas and smaller floors on 200 to 240 volt single or three phase power with a dedicated 30 amp breaker.

If the site has no three phase power, we bring generators. The PG 820 needs 25 kW on its own, or 45 kW when it runs with the DC 5500. A hose bib is helpful when the spec calls for wet grinding.

Residential jobs.

We bring our own power. A garage job needs nothing from the house except a place to park the box truck and a cleared floor.

The Lavina 20 does the grinding, the SVX3+A dust collector keeps it clean with ULPA filters a step beyond HEPA, and a 27,000 watt dual fuel generator runs all of it. Your breaker panel stays out of it.

Expect a day or two on site, grinder noise for a few hours, and a floor you can walk on when we say so. Clear the garage the night before and we handle the rest.

Hand tools and the rest.

Both crews carry a full range of hand tools, so corners, edges, joints and repairs get the same attention as the open floor. We work out of a 25 foot Freightliner box truck, with trailers for material storage on larger jobs.

Hand grinders and edgers, crack chasers, mixing stations, notched squeegees and spiked rollers, spike shoes, moisture and temperature meters, and the layout gear for striping. Plus the small vacuum, the extension cords and the drop cloths that keep the rest of the building clean.

What we ask of the site

  • Clear floor, with racking, product and vehicles moved off the work area
  • Access to the panel on commercial jobs, or room for the generator
  • A hose bib when the spec calls for wet grinding
  • Agreed hours, so grinding runs when it suits the operation
  • Somewhere to park the box truck, plus a trailer on larger jobs

Jobsite questions.

Do you need three phase power for a commercial job?
Yes. The DC 5500 vac plugs into the building and the PG 820 grinder plugs into the vac, so one 480 volt three phase 30 amp circuit runs both. If the building has it, we tie in. If it does not, we bring a generator. The PG 820 needs 25 kW on its own, or 45 kW running with the DC 5500.
What does a residential job need from the house?
Nothing from the panel. The Lavina 20, the SVX3+A dust collector and the hand tools all run on our 27,000 watt dual fuel generator. We need a place to park and a clear floor.
How much dust is there?
Very little. The DC 5500 filters 99.9 percent at 1 micron and the SVX3+A uses ULPA 15 filters, a step beyond HEPA, with automatic filter cleaning. Product and equipment nearby stay clean.
How loud is it?
The grinders are loud while they run, comparable to other construction equipment. On occupied sites we schedule grinding around your hours.
